Default BSPlayer can't access filters in Win98

For some unknown reason, whenever I burn a standalone CD with a movie compressed with XVID and try to run it in Win98, I get the "Unknown file format [XVID]" error. It seems that BSPlayer on its own cannot find the DirectShow filters in its folder. In order for my standalone CDs to work, I have to manually register the filters. This seems to work without having to actually copy the DirectShow filters into my computer

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? I don't have this problem with WinXP. The only difference I notice is that in WinXP, you can register the .ax files by right clicking them with your mouse. In Win98, I have to use the regsvr32 command to register the filters.

I've written a couple of posts on this problem(click on my profile for links to the posts), still hoping someone has an answer.

thanks.
