Default player volume coupled with system volume!

Hello,
Recently, my system volume suddenly became coupled with BSplayer.
What I mean is - when BSplayer was open, I could control system volume with my dedicated volume up/down buttons on my keyboard, and player volume with the up/down arrows.
Now, they both work on the player volume, and if I want to increase the volume further (let's say player volume is at max but system volume is low), I have to exit the player or open the volume interface from my taskbar.
What happened? How do I go back to the way it used to be?

Thanks!

Several ideas.
What is selected under
(rightclick >) Options > Preferences > Audio > Output?
Does selecting another output make a difference?
What is your OS? (re. Windows audio tapers)
Did you perhaps redefine keys under:
(rightclick >) Options > Preferences > Key definitions & WinLIRC?
To reset: select "Volume down" resp. "Volume up" and then click on (Reset to default)
[You may have to do this separately for windowed mode and full screen mode.]

I tried both:
key definitions is default
audio output is "system default", as it was before.
Still no luck.

I have Win XP.
I don't remember doing anything that would cause the previous state to change.....

Another idea:
please verify your settings under
(rightclick >) Options > Preferences > Key definitions & WinLIRC > [Multimedia keyboard keys]
