As far as I understand there are some...

As far as I understand there are some incompatibility issues between Vista's Aero and desktop mode.
Could you try with rendering modes "Overlay mixer" and/or "Internal renderer overlay (default)"....

What rendering mode is selected?
(rightclick >) Options > Preferences > Video > [Video rendering]
