xvid is an open source implementation of the mpeg4 codec (iirc).

If your having trouble with codecs i suggest you try my personal codec pack. It contains the fewest codecs to run the most possible movies. Alternativly try using ffdshow, this should also allow you to view most movies.

always use the latest version available direct from the developers!

get xvid here

trodas 28th June 2003 11:30 AM

Using ffdshow is a better alternative - it handle well all the formats, so :wink: :twisted:

And reason? Xvid is the best awailable codec today, with exception of WM9 :wink:

www.xvid.net
Download (descargadar) version 0.91
Stay away from codec pacs.

whathe 2nd July 2003 09:10 AM

which one

What's wrong with codec pacs?

What's wrong with deadmt's codec pac?

Some xvid codecs beta, some alpha...which to use?

Scared.

@whathe
ever heard of "green" xvid movies?
in 99.9% of this cases this was caused by a codec pack (for example nimo)

always use the latest developer build (alpha)

@adicoto
the 0.91 is nearly the same like koepis stable build and doesnt have any of the advanced features in the latest builds (so i dont recommend using it)

@trodas
yes, ffdshow is a great decoding alternative
wmv9 in no way reaches the quality of xvid (even if m$ claims that a thousand times)
wmv9 smoothes the picture very strong (and i like my picture as sharp as possible ;) )
