[SOLVED] Some MP3 files don't play sound automatically

A few mp3 files don't automatically output any sound when in BS Player unless I click on the progress bar (anywhere but the very beginning). This happens both when you double click the file (in windows explorer or in the media library) and when the previous song finishes and it is next on the playlist.

They work alright in Windows Media Player, and it's only with a few songs.

If they're 320 or 256 kBit/s files, it is a known problem. Install the updated version of the MP3 DirectShow decoder (v1.9). Windows comes with v1.5 by default. I can upload this file if you can't get it otherwise.

Maybe switching to ffdshow will help too.

Would you mind sending me the directshow file please?

Put it somewhere where you usually install new programs. Then execute the following commands in Start -> Run:

regsvr32.exe /u c:\windows\system32\l3codecx.ax
regsvr32.exe d:\path\where\the\new\file\is\l3codecx.ax

The first path assumes that you have WinXP with default settings. Adjust accordingly if you have Win2k or Win98. You could also overwrite the file in Windows directory, but the system file protection in an unmodified NT system will stop you.

If you have successfully updated the file, you'll get this dialog box after right-clicking and calling up Options -> Filters -> MPEG Layer-3 Decoder. It will clearly say 1.9 (Build 311).

Thank you so much! It was successful and now it works. Thanks again.
