FMP4 file format

When I try and play an .avi video I get a warning window that states
"Unknown File Format (FMP4)"
I click OK and just get the audio played - no video
Question - How do I get BS player to play this file type properly?
I can't see FMP4 in File Types or mentioned in ffdshow.
I am using Ver 2.50 1017 Pro and the Codec Manager indicates that
all is up to date.

Thanks

This should be ffmpeg 4 codec. Should be found in ffdshow config.

No it's not mentioned anywhere

Like adicoto mentioned you can find it in ffdshow!
With an appropriate moviefile loaded:
(rightclick >) Options > Filters > Advanced.
Click on the small [+]-sign of "ffdshow Video decoder"
Then click on "ffdshow" followed by
selection of "Codecs" in the colum in the middle (with a slidebar).
Then in the window most right (with a slidebar) there is the "Format"
(default at the fouth place from the top) "Other MPEG4".
If you check the list you will see it also includes FMP4.
(You can rightclick on the line to (re)assign the format to a different decoder/filter and/or you can click on the decoder mentioned and change or disable it for the selected format.)
You can add the extension to BS.Player yourself under
(rightclick >) Options > Preferences > General > File types
Just to the right of the list of "Associated extensions" type "FMP4" in the blank box above the button (Add extension) and ... (etc.)

Thanks BSPeter
I tried as you suggested but I think there must be a problem with my installation.
In ffdshow I tried to find any mention of FMP4 - 'Other MPEG4' is there but no FMP4 in the associated list.
Ran Codecmanager and reinstalled ffdshow but to no avail.
I downloaded a thing called ffdshow tryouts, loaded up beta 6 and FMP4 files are now playing correctly. Don't know what the difference is but it works.
I'll let you know what happens when I do a full uninstall-reinstall of BS Player

Many thanks for your help

Yep, much truth in that statement.
I'll let sleeping dogs lie

Thanks again Peter
