Don't know about DTS.
For 5.1 you could use AC3filter.
Look here

BSPeter! You don't know the DTS ???
Then i recommend you to read all of these links:
http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.32
http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#3.6.2
http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#3.6.3

Clearly DTS is a LOT better DVD-Audio(for video) format than the worthless AC3!

And YES! THERE IS a Decoder for DTS!!!
Just read it:

it is a collection of C files :?

on doom9, there is also a dts filter. However, it is an .ax-file (avi2ac3dts.ax); never heard of it. Does anyone have an idea what to do with it?

That's a directshow filter for dts-in-avi. You must register it. Start > Run and type regsvr32 avi2ac3dts.ax. Also you must have a directshow filter capable of decoding dts, for instance, WinDVD's iviaudio.ax. Although, it is easier to use the latest RC versions of AC3filter by Valex, which is now able to decode DTS. Another option is Media Player Classic, which has a builtin DTS decoder, but we all like BSPlayer the better, right? ')

Thanks girco :)

Installed valex' filter, works 100%!

I prefer this solution above the dsfilter-one, because I'm rather using xvid-filter. WMC also works, but like you said, we all are True Believers of bsplayer..

It's strange that there is so little support for dts-playback (I googled half the day yesterday) - a lot of dvd's are encoded with it.

Thx again!

I apparently missed this post at the time.
Yes I'm aware of DTS; what I meant to say is that I wasn't aware of a filter. Well it appears there is one!

Glad to help :)

The problem is dts requires too much room. 768 or 1536 kbps vs 384 or 448 kbps for ac3. So you see, for a 2hr movie in 2 cds, video quality would be at most average. A few movies, though, benefit a lot from dts audio, for example, the fast and the furious and gladiator, to name a few. But for most, you are better off just as well with ac3 audio.

info: as of now, AC3 Filter supports DTS decoding.
Took him a while
