There is actually another (good) kind of subtitles - "embedded", they may be part of the media file (Matroska, OGM, VOB), but are not forced and can be turned on and off at will.

I am not familiar with this exact pirate release. However, embedded text subtitles can be turned off by pressing "S" while the movie is playing, or disabled at all by going to Options -> Preferences...
