(rightclick >) Options > Preferences > Subtitles...

(rightclick >) Options > Preferences > Subtitles [Subtitle properties]
Check/select "Enable drawing subtitles under image with EVR renderer"
(and maybe try "Use new subtitle parser/renderer")...
