Yes, I agree with you: the more recent codec should indeed be able to do that. Now, which codec exactly are you referring to out of all codecs and other "goodies" :evil: included in the mega codec...

First thing I would think of in such situation, is that the five newer avi's could require a codec of later date than the one installed on my PC. Any idea what codec was used to create these avi's?...

Could be you don't have the codec as used for that particular movie installed or that the file is corrupted.
Can you play the movie in question in WMP or in VLC?
Assuming that it is an .avi, please...
