Forgot to ask you if you had tried the combination of Video Mode 1 Overlay and "Draw subtitles to Overlay surface" (under Options > Preferences > Subtitles) disabled?

What do you have selected under Video rendering? ...

What do you have selected under Video rendering?
(rightclick > Options > Preferences > Video)
If you've selected "Use overlay Mode 1" try "Use overlay Mode 2 (Overlay mixer)" (or no overlay)...
