You can find out which type of video- & audio (compression) your moviefile has e.g. by using a (freeware) utility like e.g. GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/)....

Check under filters which codec/filter is...

Check under filters which codec/filter is actually used to play your file.
(rightclick > Options > Filters > Advanced)
Check if if offers in its configurationsettings perhaps a possibility as...
