Tutorial for Setting up LAN Mode?

I don't know where to start and, for the life of me, can't find instructions on here. Can anyone point me to a tutorial or directions on how to do this? I don't even know where to start.

Open BSplayer -> menu button on your device and will pop-up a menu -> select More. Select and another menu will pop up and it starts with LAN mode. Select LAN mode. Now you have the option: Touch to add server. Touch this and you will find a window in which you have to input server name, username and password to connect. Save the entered data. You will have now in the list the server you just entered. Click on it and start browsing for files.
In this moment, pressing Menu button on your device will pop up the menu where you can select Local mode, to return browsing your device.

This is not really what I meant. I meant, what do I do on my computer? I put in what I think is the address (192.168.2.1) and it's not working. Surely something has to be done on the computer side of things to make this work.

For example, do I have to set up port forwarding, etc? A step by step guide for those of us who are not tech savy would be nice.

First of all, you must have a user with password on your PC. Second, you must share a folder where you have media files ( rightclick -> options -> sharing and security).
Now, you are ready to use LAN mode. If you have dynamic IP in the network, then it's better to use PC's name as server and not it's IP.
So, in server settings input:
servername: 192.168.XXX.xxx if you have static IP OR MyPCname if dynamic IP.
username: your PC username
pass: your PC username's password
