[FIXED] BS.Player crashes under Windows 7 (libavcodec.dll)

example movie: Zeitgeist.Addendum.DVDRip.XviD
and all like that
but it doesn't crash on "serie files"/smaller files like
Stargate SG-1 [4x01] Small Victories 350-AC3-AMC
Entourage.S06E12.REPACK.HDTV.XviD-NoTV

i have reinstalled bsplayer few times, reinstalled fddshow. Other video players play the files normally which bsplayer doesnt.

windows update did 2 updates:
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB977074)
Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View List for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB978506)
also windows media center did some "background" update today or i saw it doing update in the system tray

this problem occured today for the first time or havent watch a movie for awhile

What to do?

bsplayer crahes a lot with version 2.51.bug related

there is some kind of bug with this version ,build 1022.
it crashes a lot under windows 7 .32 bits . for some reason , same codec with all episodes of tv series and some movies . it will play fine and suddenly , will crash with no change from the encoding done to tv show .
here is the log:\
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

when i use media info all tv shows episodes are made with same codec and encoding .
example :
video : 1033 kbps. 624.352{16:9} at 23.976 fps. mpeg4 xvid packed bitstream advanced simple l5 . bvop

older version never crashed : of course i was using windows xp .
also all other episodes work, same media info and work with vlc and other players .
thanks for any input

yes, i dl the codecs directly from the bsplayer to be used internally . this was the only choice presented to me anyway during installation

angel40204 6th February 2010 01:42 PM

same problem

i confirmed . same problem, i also wrote a thread . it crahes for no appearent reason . same under windows 7. 32 bits
it will play fine some tv shows and another one with same encoding info will crash . this has to be fixed.
i get the same crash report

Russian_Ice 6th February 2010 03:00 PM

неужели ни у кого не стоит Windows 7?
Разработчики предпринимают какие-нибудь меры по устранению проблемы?
===
Surely no one is Windows 7?
The developers have taken some measures to address the problem?

angel40204 7th February 2010 12:58 PM

maybe maybe not

this is not good at all. new version is getting worse and sloppy. have to use a older version to get it to play right . how do you call that progress.
no reaction from the maker of this product or any reply at all .
i started to use other players . because this bsplayer with these new internal codecs has a lot of issues . also not compatible with ripbot264.
find out yourself. soon i started to use ripbot264 . open and close program .
and then use bsplayer . it will crash immediately .
what in the world are you doing webtech?
did not have this issue with older versions before.

libavcodec.dll it's ffdshow's library. So, probably this is caused by the difference between ffdshow's version locally installed by BSPlayer and the system one. Could you uninstall BSPlayer's ffdshow install and use system's one ? Or use windows 7's built-in MPEG4 decoder?

p3_sv 24th February 2010 09:52 PM

libavcodec.dll

This was my problem:
I watch a lot of tv shows, therefore the episodes require subtitles. When I discovered this version of bsplayer I was extremely happy because of the "check for subtitles online" feature(I was always lazy).
At a point I discovered that bsplayer wold not work with all the tv shows I was watching. It would crash giving me the continue application/ close application dialog.
I thought there was something wrong with the installation, so installed it several times with no result.
The thing is that even if it crashed BS would still look for the subtitles, so I let. I searched the cache folder and copied the subtitle and I just played the movie with VLC.
So I let this pass for a while knowing that BS wouldn't play any types of avi and went on with VLC for the incompatible .avi's
Today I thought I would look at the bug:bug: report and see what does it say. Something about libavcodec.dll. This .dll is located in the FFDShow folder that was installed by default by BSplayer.
So I moved the FFDShow folder and installed an independent FFDShow. Now BSplayer doesn't give me anymore trouble.
Thought I would make an account to share how I solved my problem. Maybe it will be useful for someone

Fixed in new beta 2.42. Thank you for your feedback.

BSPeter 1st March 2010 10:52 PM

Ico-man surely meant 2.52.1024beta!
From its changelog :
Code:

          - fixed bug with adding external audio files with MKV files
          - fixed text display in full screen skin with UTF8 language files
          - fixed proxy configuration in codec manager
          - fixed 'stealing focus' bug if 'Auto hide main window' option was set
          - fixed problem with local codec system, dll was loaded from system installed folder, instead local (ffdshow, libavcodec)
          - ..... etc....
