Unknown file format (DIVX)

I have a downloaded movie from Winmx, "Disney Song of the South", which is a "super DIVX" file. When I try to playit on the bsplayer I receive the message "unknown file format (DIVX). I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I can play this movie. Thanks in advance.

do you know what codec is used for the films compression??
If this codec isn't installed it won't work .
on your film right clic-> properties-> resume -> advanced. and there check the video compression ( it says divx codec or XVID codec .. )
anyway now that you know the used codec, download it on the internet
( divx.com for the divx codec and search in google for xvid ) or use peer-to-peer , install it, sit back and enjoy the movie!!

hope it works,

Scotty91, thank you for your response.

I do not know what codec is used for compression. I right clic'd on the movie but the only tabs under properties are "general", "details" and "preview". Any other suggestions? Thanks again.

Download Gspot and open the video file. This utility will tell you what codec should be installed in your system.

Thank you very much. That solved my problem. The codec was divx 5.0
