played mpg's an hour ago, but not anymore

bsplayer played all my video files perfectly. Then i had to reformat my HD, and when i reinstalled bs, it wouldn't play mpg's, but played everything else just fine. media player wouldn't play the mpg's either, nor would crystal player.

Am i missing a particular codec? I have the Hyper version of the ace mega codec pack installed.

Topdong,

You are missing an MPEG codec. It doesn't come with Windows.
Personally I stay away from codec packs, so I don't know if it is in ace.
It's difficult to find an mpeg codec that's freeware.
I know Elecard used to have a free one, but they started charging for it a while ago.

It's an MPEG 2 codec you talk about. MPEG 1 comes with windows. If you have an DVD video player, it comes usually with an MPEG 2 decoder. But if you search the google you may find a free one.

the ace mega codec has several mpeg codecs, which i have installed, but none of them work. The same setup worked hours ago, but now it doesn't. I just don't get that.

adicoto, no dvd player, but i assume i have an mpeg 2 codec installed, i'll check my pc when i get home. i'll check google for one too though.

thanks for the help

Topdong,

You really are missing the MPEG2 codec. Trust us on this.
I did a little search and the Elecard MPEG2 codec seems to be included in the codec pack, but like I said earlier : codec packs cause trouble.

Maybe you could try Elecards Trial version. Just to make sure.
If it's working, you can buy the product or serach for a different codec
(but at least you know where the problem is)

In case the trial version is not working : uninstall the codec pack (if that's possible), clean up everything and install only the essentials. FFDshow, the latest XviD build and DivX3.11 (I might have forgotten some)
Then try the trial version again.

all fixed. All i did was UNinstall the ace codec pack, which left me with only the xvid codec, and all the mpg's worked.

my mpgs work in everything but bs

I think they worked on the older build of bs.

bassically the video starts and then the only thing moving on is the audio

the video just stays frozen on the first frame.

the mpgs are working fine in winamp. so I think it's a problem with bsplayer

my current directshow filter for mpegs is ffdshow. like I said I have no problems with any other players.

one other problem i've had is sometimes I need to restart playback in bsplayer to get the subtitles going.
