Nothing wrong here. CAn't reproduce the bug.
Do you have installed all WMP codecs ?

Build 499 isn't the latest 0.86 version. That's build 501.
You can download version .86 build 501 here (501 available as zip and/or as exe=install file), here (501=zip-file) or here (501=exe-file)
With respect to the more recent version 1.00 RC1 builds, you better download directly from the site of BSPlayer's creator bst, i.e. here, to make sure you always have the most recent version.

I'm using XP Pro. I did not knowingly/explicitly install any WMP codecs. I don't know if they previously existed on my system or not.

If I download the wmv file using wget and play it using Open (file), it will play just fine, so it should not be a codec issue. Besides, if I was missing a codec, it would be better to return an error message to that effect instead of "Unhandled exception."
