Fullscreen Problems

Ok, heres my situation:
I have a pants 2.5mb gfx adaptor in my laptop.
When i view video full screen in BSPlayer the framerate sucks. When i put it on overlay on desktop it performs better than windows media player with newer DivX (this is a pII 300!). Why doesn't full screen use the same overlay mode as desktop? The only way i have figured out how to half get round this is to make a web page with backround colour set to overlay colour and then view it full screen in Internet Explorer. This works, but isn't an ideal solution, also means that empty space isn't quite black.

Is there any way to make full screen in BSPlayer just do the same as desktop overlay?
Windows Media Player v7 can play everything fine fullscreen, but it sucks and i don't wish to install it.
