Unknown file format I am a new user of BS Player. I have installed it on a stand-alone Dell Pentium III running Windows 98SE. I have had a lot of problems with playing video clips with WMP 7.1 so I thought I would try BS Player. Unfortunately, more than half the clips I try to open gives me a message that it is an unknow format. When I check the properties of the clip, they are all WMV's. Why does it play some of these (a minority) and not the others. Are there other codec packages I need to load? Any ideas? |
Go to Microsoft site and download codec packages for WMV 8 and 9. |
I'd already done that for WMP 7.1. If I remember correctly, when you install this bundle, it doesn't necessarily put it in any particular file, right? So if that's not the problem, what else could it be? |
You need to do the same thing for WMP 8 & 9 as well. (Not sure if there is a WMP 10 codec out yet?) |
OK, let's start again. First, what exactly is the message ? Unknown file format and what else ? If you open the same file in WMP, in properties, what codec does it say it use for decoding ? Did you installed any other codec packs ? Did you installed the codecs from here : http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic.php?t=3042 |
