BSPlayer can handle subtitles, internal and external, with no problems at all. Did you ever seen me mentioning something about using Haali ???? So, to play a video file you need: - splitter - > it splits the file into streams, audio, video, subtitles.... - video decoder - > a filter to decompress the video stream - audio decoder -> a filter to decode the audio stream and a subtitle renderer. BSPlayer can render subtitles by itself, don't need Haali or VSfilter for that. |
adicoto I just see you mentioning the GABEST splitter. With which I also tried and the same freeze occurs. Should I install GABEST filter in some other way so that it would not render the subtitles? btw. thank you and J7n for all the hard work you have put into for trying to resolve this bug of mine. |
This is actually 'my' bug too. |
J7n great I thought I was the only guy having this bug. |

Even seeking in many formats with Bsplayer is completely not stable due to a kind of hardware / software bottleneck, in my opinion that's reason is because of seeking technique that slider bar goes "suddenly"/directly to the time which user clicks, instead of sliding to a specific time then resuming which some other players do it well. |
I almost never used buffering on my old desktop pc (I only had 256MB of RAM), but with my laptop and 2GB of RAM I set the buffer to 300MB (25%) and I never had a problem with this setting (only a little pause of a second at the start of the movie, just the time to initialize the buffer) This way the DVD/HDD drive is used really rarely, seeking times are nullified and the battery (when not connected to the network) is grateful ;) Maybe you have interruptions because the buffer needs to be filled every few seconds of playback since 6MB is almost 1% of the total length of the file (if you have a 700MB video file) and if the total time length is about 100 minutes, it means that every less-than-a-minute your buffer need to be filled and the playback doesn't start until it's filled at at least the 25%. So if the transfer rate (from drive to ram) is low you have interruptions every now and then.. By rising the playback priority and lowering the buffer priority should help in you case, but if you have at lest 1GB of RAM I suggest you to rise the buffer capacity |
I have tested once, long time ago the buffering thing that was really nasty and buggy. Most of the time was slowing down the system and the playback was stuttering often. Since then, never tested, never used, never needed (I play allmost each day HD content (in x264 compresion) over the wireless network in my home and never had problems with it) |
so any news about this bug? |
Yeap, just installed BSPlayer latest beta build on my PC and the same thing in there. File playing smooth, even after forwarding, rewinding half of the movie file. |
but I and J7n aren't so lucky since this seeking freezes BSPLAYER |
I understand, at this moment I can't help, as I can't reproduce the bug. |
This is still a mystery. I tried to play a file with subs on my other computer. Although the player still crashed eventually on H.264 streams with very long GOPs (the kind you can't ffd/rew), overall seeking seemed much more stable. I realize that calling GPU the culprit is a too hasty conclusion. But in that computer all other soft and hardware components were the same, except for Intel 965G video. |
My old laptop was driven by an onboard intel GMA, the new one has a SIS Mirage 3 and my PC have ATI HD2600PRO. There is only one common thing among them. They all are driven by Intel CPUs. Dual Core @ 1.7, Dual core @ 2.2 and Core 2 Duo @ 2. |
VIdeo Player BS.Player @kimiraikkonen New search by keyframe option (turned on by default) should improve BS.Player response time, + "because of seeking technique that slider bar goes "suddenly"/directly to the time which user clicks, instead of sliding to a specific time then resuming which some other players do it well." This does not depend from BS.Player, but rather from decoder used. @J7N & ashrack (but I and J7n aren't so lucky since this seeking freezes BSPLAYER) Can you send us any small sample file where this freezing after seeking occurs? We would appreciate it. |

Which exact feature on which version?(I'm using pretty old version) I don't blame Bsplayer, based on my understanding there are still bugs in CoreAVC + Gabest Splitter for freeze problem IF we're talking about the same problem.(the video freeze problem that occurs when you seek to a time directly by clicking slidebar on MP4 movies(audio goes on), then after a few seconds the audio/video sync is re-established) - This problem not about fast rewind / fast forward, pay attention. #2) For the problem of fast / instable playback when you clicked on a further time on slidebar just for a few seconds (but annoying), that seems a kind of phenomenon on players "including" Bsplayer. Pausing playback before clicking to a further time then resuming playback usually more stable for seeking. |
ICO-MAN all X264 720p or 1080p movies with embedded subtitles will hang. so you can just download any X264 movie with embedde subs and try it out. |
Where do I get the latest clean beta to see if it still crashes with the same set of codecs? |
What do you mean with CLEAN beta? Without adware? AFAIK all non-Pro betas have adware in them, and there are no betas ATM because the final release is out  |
J7n I tried the latest beta but it still didn't work. So I doubt that the final version has this bug fixed. ATM I am starting to use KMPlayer but still hoping this gets fixed since I still haven't adapted to KMPlayer totally. |
Really old bug This bug of BS Player is old as the player itself. You just need to fast forward carefully, which can often be really bugging. Suitable for casual calm film watching, not ffwding every now and then. Still using it till these days together with V** Player though. Dear BS Player devs, if you fix this issue => you win 3 Internets. |
My BsPlayer keeps freezing as well. I use the free version of it. My old version kept crashing whenver I would skip forward by pressing the right arrow key on my keyboard. I re-installed, the soft was allright for a week and suddenly it started to happen again. And it's happening more often every episode or so. I end up to the point where I can't really skip forward anymore in any video cause it will crash. I don't know what else I need to do, cause I'm tired of doing an uninstall and a clean install every few days or so.. The video is an .x264 with an extension .mkv using Central European Subtitles. Thank you! |
