Cannot play .MOV files (?)

Hi everyone !

1 - I just bought BSplayer Pro and installed latest version (v2.36).
2 - I am using Windows Vista Ultimate on a Sony VAIO laptop.
3 - I have installed Quicktime Lite latest version (v2.80)

Still when I try to open a .mov file I have several error messages showing up.
The first one is below :
"This application has failed to start because CoreMultimedia.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

A bit disappointed as I mainly bought BSPlayer as I saw in the features : "
BS.Player ™ is the software movie and media player that supports all popular video....QT QuickTime mov...."

Can anyone help me ? Thank you all for your time !

QuickTime alternative ?

BSPeter 21st March 2009 05:06 PM

When installing BS.Player did you allow it to install codecs/filters locally?

THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR HELP ! :smile

To adicoto : They call it QT Lite (QT Lite is a lightweight version of QuickTime. It contains only the essential components that are required for viewing QuickTime content in your favorite browser.) I downloaded it here : Free-Codecs.com :: Download QuickTime Alternative (QT Lite) 2.8.0 : QT Lite is a lightweight version of QuickTime.

I am right now downloading QT Alternative in case there is a difference (?) and will install it asap...

To BSPeter : Yes as during installation BSPlayer asked me somethink like "do you want to download the missing codecs?" I answered yes and it took several minutes to download the codecs.

What is surprising is that when I googled for "
CoreMultimedia.dll" to get more info, it showed that this dll is related to Corel. Ok I have Corel Paintshop Pro XI installed on my laptop but I don't understand the relation with BSplayer (?)

Unfortunately same thing with Quicktime Alternative installed...
If I select "Menu" then "Open file" then "abc.mov" , this is what happens :

Yeap, seems that this error it's verry common when using quicktime (and alternative too) on the same machine with paintshop pro. BSPlayer, picassa, prism video converter, other less known (by me) programs generate this error.

It seems that it's not related to BSPlayer and as far as I've seen, there was only 1 solution. Copy the *core.dlls (one by one) from corel folder to system32 folder until the message goes away.

I am downloading an HD trailer from apple site to test. I have corel on my computer, but X4. No coremultimedia.dll.

Hi adicoto !
Well finally I uninstalled Corel Paintshop Pro, installed Quicktime Pro and have no more insulting messages :smile
But now I can only hear the sound of my MOV file, no image. BSplayer is just considering the file as an Audio file (?)
If I use Quicktime Pro, of course I can see my movie perfectly but I bought BSplayer because I thought I could avoid to have several players...

Please keep me informed if on your side you succeeded to watch a MOV file in BSplayer ?

Thanks !

I had the same problem with MOV files. I had audio but no picture...
Finally I ended up converting the files to other format...
Not very happy though!

Downloaded some HD files, but now I realise that doesn't help. Because are HD, not ordinary files, and therefore play OK using CoreAVC and CoreAAC filters.
Searching for other files to test.
A link something ?

Can anyone play Mov files and get image + audio ?

Like "wolfmandim" posted here, I can ONLY get audio although I have QuickTime Pro v7.60 installed.

Thank you all for your help ! :wink

I tried with this MOV sample file (Sorenson Video - 76 KB).
I can hear the sound and watch the video:
FFDShow audio and video decoder + Gabest MP4 splitter v1.0.0.5 :tonguey:

adicoto 24th April 2009 07:50 PM

3GP file: Gabest MP4 splitter, Monogram AMR decoder, MPEG4s DMO video decoder, AC3Filter

3GP2 file: same as above

Ipod file: Gabest MP4 splitter, CoreAVC, CoreAAC, AC3Filter

iTunes file: Gabest MP4 splitter, MPEG4s DMO, CoreAAC, AC3Filter

MPEG4 file: same as above

Sorenson file: Gabest MP4 splitter, Nero video decoder, Nero Audio decoder, AC3Filter, but the file does not play. Be back after baning Nero. LE: Enabled Sorenson video for ffdshow, Video play OK. Tizio, can you post here audio compresion used, please ?

Tizio 24th April 2009 08:06 PM

I think it is Elecard or ffdshow.. Be back after redownloading the file.
EDITED:
FFDShow audio decoder v1.0.5.2441

Hi Guys !

I had today a bit of free time and decided to investigate on this matter.
So first when I tried a few samples on the Apple' site Tizio mentionned, it WORKED :cool Could see the files with image and sound in BSplayer.
But I realized that .mov files are not all the same and the ones I have trouble with, are coming out from a small Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX550 I have.

So I tried to identify these movies using the latest version of AVIcodec and Gspot...well, none of them could identify them properly. :frown:

AVIcodec says : "Opening Error No combination of filters could be found to render the steam for D:\P1080494.mov"
GSPOT says : "VIDEO Codec: JPEG - Name : Apple Photo JPEG - Status : Codec Status Undetermined"
"AUDIO codec: RAW : 8-bit unsigned - Info: 8000Hz - Stat: Status undetermined

Still they open and display alright with Quicktime Pro v7.60 (image and sound are OK)
Anyway maybe these info can help for further investigations...THANKS !

Yes, you said that once, but when you click on ffdshow audio, you can see what compresion was found to decode.

It's possible that you just need an M-JPEG decoder. Do you have a small file to post somwhere to be downloaded for testing ?

Tizio 27th April 2009 05:54 PM

@BSchina
I tried to play a movie recorded with a Panasonic FZ5 and I wasn't able to play the video stream in BSplayer until I renamed the file extension to 3G2.

This way the Nero Digital Parser was used as a splitter and the video and audio streams correctly parsed.

@adicoto
For the downloadable source sample here are the ffdshow results:
The video reports the FOURCC: SVQ1 and the related libavcodec svq1 filter
The audio reports the QDM2 input (I don't know which kind of compression QDM2 is) and a generic libavcodec for the decoding filter

And the filters used to decode the file were ?

Thank you, solved the audio problem too. But in the video part, ffdshow reports SVQ3 not SVQ1.

Tizio 28th April 2009 06:43 AM

Video
4CC: JPEG
FILTER: libavcodec mjpeg

Audio
BSplayer used the Nero QT audio decoder, but it's a simple RAW audio stream (probably PCM 8 bit)

adicoto 28th April 2009 07:18 AM

So...M-JPEG it is. But we still need a sample.
