Subtitles, an idea for a new build

Hi,

I am using BSplayer for while now, to play my movie files. It's the best player I ever found on the web and with the subtitles it's a great player.

I have also connected my computer to my television, so I load the movie into BSplayer with the subtitles and set it full screen. (Most of my movies are wide-screen).

Everthink works OK, but due to the wide-screen move I have a black bar at the top and bottom of my screen. And the subtitles layed over my movie. isn't it possible to place the subtitles into the black bar at the bottom op my screen. Even on an special widescreen television set there is usualy still enough blackbar left to place the subtitles into.

In the current build (488) there is the option to specify the location of the subtitles, but when I try to drop them into the blackbar they jump back to the bottom of the movie.

Maybe this is something for a new build. :D
Keep up the good work!

The only thing you must do is to uncheck the "Draw Subtitles in Overlay Surface" option. It's located at Options - Preferences - Subtitles.

Thanks,

This proves once again that BSplayer is the best player there is!

There is still one problem with unchecking "Draw Subtitles in Overlay Surface" option. It must be checked if you are using ATI Radeon as video card and are using Theater Mode. In theater mode ATI's drivers will display only stuff on overlay surface on TV.

This would be easy to implement if it is possible to extend overlay surface bigger than video is. So there would just be more room on overlay surface bellow movie. It's really annoying when there is lots of black screen bellow movie and subtitles are drawn over movie.

Last versions of Vobsub (now v2.18 ) have this feature to extend overlay to 16/9 and put subtitles on it.
And since build 490, bsplayer doesn't crash anymore with vobsub versions above v2.15.
I only use vobsub subtitles, but I think it can load textual ones too.

I'll look that possibility althou it would be much nicer if bsplayer itself could handle that.
