having a problem with my film
 

I'm having a problem with a film, it's not a codec problem but a burning problem. a friend burned 8 mile for me and when I try reading it it stops responding or when I try to copy it on the hard drive after 80% copied it says there a cycling redondance ( redondance de cyclage in french )
I some know's how the get passed over that so that I can copy my file like if it was 80% of the original file ( hope you can understand something )

to sum up, the CD has been badly burnt or damaged and the disc drive can't read it correctly
sometimes reading on another drive can allow you to copy the files on your hard drive, then it's a good thing to burn another copy
someone proposed a link to a software that could solve this kind of problems too.

i didn't get it to work. virtual dub or nandub crashes down each time. and it can't work with the avi copy in neodivx 9.2. I'll get reburned anyway.

did you try the badCopy pro software mentionned by rochels ?

since no one had the opportunity to test it 'live' on the other forum, I'd be interested to know if it's efficient

well i tried it. but I had to stop it before it was finished.
it seems to work but when it can't read the bytes it just replaces 2048 bytes by new ones but I don't know what it'll give on the movie!!

it's very, very, very slow!!! the .avi isn't corrupted on the fisrt 300Mb ( on 700Mb) so it took around 2 minutes but after that it took an hour and a half to correct 1Mb!!! It'll take a week to get the movie working, if it works!!

I think I'll stop my test there. I might try another day when I have time!!

I'll keep in touch about it!

PS:
the problem is there are frames missing , maybe I could find them somewhere ( only pictures, sound is fine and i can extract it !!! ) damned divx :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

is it an overburn cd??
 

is there any chanse that the cd you got from your friend is an overburn one?
if that's the case, then there's a possibility that the file is fine but the drive is not capable of reading it.. it has hapened to my some times.. when i overburn cd's the dvd or the cd rom drive can not playback the files normaly.. but it works on the cd rom burner drive!!

no it's not a overburn problem. file size is 699Mb and cd 700Mb for the first film.
I've got a problem with another one file 650Mb cd 700Mb!!

the problem is that before i could read it and just not copy it but this time I can't even read it!!!

I tried the cd on 5 different cd drives ( or dvd drives ) and it never worked

anyway, I'll try to know more about the burning problem, seems pretty interesting! :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

here's a piece of info about my problem if anyone gets to have the same one.

A cd with a redondance ( I don't know the english term )can be read depending where the burning erro is!!
An redondance usually applies to between 15 and 30 secondes on the movie!
you just have to skip this part and the movie goes on ( it's like a freeze but much longer and the audio is also damaged!!)
you can't copy your film on the hard drive!! that's the main problem.
In my case the redondance is at the start of the cd. in the definition part.
so my system is unable to recognize the .avi as one!
that doesn't often happen, it usually appears on the film!
I hope it helps someone if you have the same problem.
special thanks to my teachers for all those explanation ( school still has good sides!! )

CloneCD is good to read problematic CD's

that's the english equivalent!

I got ot read one of my cd with another computer but I don't know why. the most suprising is that the error doesn't appear at the same point of progress on other computers ( my bugs in the first 30% and my mums in the last 10%! )

anyway, it's a problem we're not ready to solve permenantly!

Here is a solution to the CRC problem

1. Create a image of your cd with CloneCD
2. Open this image with WinISO
3. Extract the avi is this image - choose the target directory
- extract the avi

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but now I have a problem:
for the two films ( 8 mile xvid ; Harry Potter 2 divx;-) MPEG-4 Low Motion )
I have the two errors messages with bsplayer ( unknown format ( XVID ) ; unknown format ( DIV 3 ))

I tried all ways explained on the forum and it didn't work!!
the only player that can read them is real one .

I'd say that despite you found a workaround to bypass the CRC error that prevented you to copy your file to the hard drive, the file that you have in the end is still corrupt (after all that's basically the meaning of a CRC error)

and in some cases files are so badly corrupt that you can't do anything with them... (plus I've read somewhere [on a page of the MFC project I think] that the AVI format is very sensible to errors...)

bsPlayer is quite strict on the quality of the file (if it's slightly corrupted, bsPlayer will tell unknown file format), it may be that other players (such as Real One here) allow you to play even corrupted files but I think you'll get freezings or else in some places...

I'm gonna watch one just now.
So I'll see if the movie freezes!!
Hope it doesn't.
If the movie plays alright, I'll try adding frames ( I think there might be some missing!! ) and trybit with bsplayer.

well two pages for my topic ( I never thought I would get there one day!! )
anyway quietseb, you were right!!
on the 2 films I "saved" that way.
8 mile ( 1:50:22 ) breaks down at 1:40:00 ( just the last and better bit!!!!!)
harry potter 2 second part ( 1:29:12 ) breaks down at... 1:29:10 !!!!
why isn't tha same with 8 mile!!!! poor me.
anyway if somebody has the ten last minutes of 8 mile I would be glad to get them!!!

yes, this is exactly what i am doing but i use CDMage to extract image of CD

i think the file is broken after extraction.
try other CD drive, other settings of CloneCD(switch off inteli error scaner, decrease speed of CD drive) or use CDMage to extract the file.
