Default big problems with subtitles

I downloaded the movie hero, the problems is that its subbed in chinese(i think)...i tried downloading some subs(.rar) but i cant open them on my computer...when i try to open them in my bsplayer they dont appear...what program do i need?
im really really new at this so please help..

RAR is an archive format
you can use winrar or winace or power archiver and dozens of other utils (but not winzip AFAIK) to extract the files from this archive

thanx man! i actually somehowe managed to download an english version(.srt file) to the movie..dont know how, but i did it.....but know,with your help, I can download swedish subs to my movies! thanx a lot!!
