AC3 5.1 question

Hello everybody,

I just downloaded The Matrix, a two cd version in AC3 5.1 .

I just checked and it is a true 5.1 but I don't understand very well.
5.1 doesn't mean that the sound effects and the voice is set out in all the 5 speakers ?

When I watch the movie, the music come from all the speakers, but the sound effects and the voice come only from the front center speaker.

And another anoying thing is that the volume is very low, not loud at all.

I m using the AC3 Filter 0.68b and I have set it to SPDIF. The 5.1 speakers setting does the same thing.

Am I doing something wrong, or all the AC3 movies are like this: sound effects and voices only in the front channel ??

If so, then it sucks...

THanks for help !

the best you can do is not to download films !!
it's not legal and it's always a mess to get it to work properly!!

most of the time the problem comes from the movie file. that' all I can say

Most movies have the voices set for the center speaker for a good reason - the actor who speaks ist mostly seen on the monitor :-)

If the center speaker is playig too quite, it can be because of many reasons. Check, if you have set its volume on good level in your Sound preferences Then check the amplifier - the center speaker volume can be mostly adjusted separately. And check the AC3 filter too - here try to adjust the gain for center speaker.

The sound efects are mostly set for the center speaker, because they mostly depend on what u can see too. Only sounds made by the environment (storm, rain, wind, animals, objects flying from the explosion) can be heard from all speakers. The point is, that you should hear everything from the position you can see it or where you expect it to be.
