Default H264 codec

I keep reading about this so-called fantastic new codec H264. I've got a few files supposedly encoded with it and QT7 seems about the only one to play them, and I HATE QUICKTIME!

Is there any way to get the best player to play them? So far I seem to be able to only get sound if I try to open it with BS.

When i try to play a h264-file i get a checkbox "Unknown format (x264)"
clicking OK a seperate window pops up (not BS Moviewindow) with the title "ActiveMovie Window" which can be controlled by BSP.
In Zoomplayer the file works fine and Gspot claims the system should be able to playback.
previous, I uninstalled all codecs, dl'ed new BSP (820) and ffdshow 20050701
So BSP is able to play the file, but in a very crude way.

Any suggestions to get it working?

Grampus,

Try going into Preferences -> Video -> Video Rendering

and changing the render mode ie. try 'overlay mode 1' play the file, see what happens, then try 'overlay mode 2' then VMR-9 etc.

usually i find overlay mode 1 or 2 should solve the ActiveMovie Window problem.

hope that helps

Hi all,

When i try to play a h264-file with bsplayer ver 1.37 i get a checkbox "Unknown format (x264)"
I tried to do what has been written above but the only change is that now instead of that check box i get another one which says
BSplayer error :unhandled exception and various numbers.

Gspot says i dont have h264 codec installed which probably is true but the file plays quite allright in windows media player and in vlc player.
I searched about h264 codec to download but it was difficult for me -a newbbie- to find out what i should download.

Since i like bsplayer most than any other player i wish i knew what the problem is.

Thank you in advance

I don't have H264 encoded video files yet to test it. Can someone post here a link to a small (up to 10-15 MB) file to download and test ? Thank you.

Thx for your try to help adicoto but unfortunately i already had installed the codec at which the link you provided above refers to and still gspot says that h264 codec is missing and bsplayer behaves as i described while the other players are playing the file quite allright.
I am afraid i dont have any file to the size you want (or close enough) :(

Thx...

The link above is for an x264 decoder that normally should decode H264 video files. Made some browsing around and it seems that different H264 encoders generate different files and not all decoders can handle them. In fact H264 was developped for MP4 and not vor AVI. Just downloaded from Pegassus a sample file and their decoder and the result was a big green screen. So much for compatibility yet.

I am using ffdshow 20050619 which plays h.264 clips perfectly, though I am also using BS 823.17.

Much obliged pietro.
The link you provided was not working but i managed to find the file elsewere.
In case someone want this file here is the link i was able to find the ffdshow version provided by pietro above : http://media.xboxyde.com/ffdshow-20050619.exe

I already had tried to use ffdshow but was an older version so probably didnt do the job.

Also here is the latest version of ffdshow :
http://www.free-codecs.com/FFDShow_download.htm
which btw i didnt use cause i am very tired right now....

Thx...

You're welcome

I'll be interested to know the differences in the latest ffdshow if you install it, though I think I've read that not all versions support h.264.

I don't suppose you know of a wmv codec that allows you to play wmv in slo-motion. I can even play .mov and .rm in slo-mo with BS, but not wmv, even though WMP itself had variable speeds. (But I hate using WMP)

Nice indeed, FFdshow is based on the same x264 decoder to wich my link point at. :))
AFAIK, ffdshow supports H264 since about one year. I've installed then one build and I've noticed H264 support. But never tested.

ok people, i found whats Wrong !!

it's the version 7 of nero !!

because when i reinstall the version 6.6.0.16 he can read X264 !!

so when Nero version 6 is intalled i have this codec installed ->

Quote:
Nero Video Decoder
FileVersion = 3,2,0,20c
CompanyName = Nero AG
FileDescription = MPEG-1/2/4 & AVC video decoder w/ DxVA
InternalName =
LegalCopyright = Copyright (c) 2005 Nero AG and its licensors
OriginalFileName = NeVideo.ax
ProductName = Nero Suite
ProductVersion = 2, 0, 2, 46
But with the 7 i have that one

Quote:
Nero Video Decoder
FileVersion = 4, 2, 0, 27e
CompanyName = Nero AG
FileDescription = MPEG-1/2/4 & AVC video decoder w/ DxVA
InternalName =
LegalCopyright = Copyright (c) 2005 Nero AG and its licensors
OriginalFileName = NeVideo.ax
ProductName = Nero Suite
ProductVersion = 2, 0, 2, 48
So how i can copy de codec of the Nero6 ?? because i assume there more that 1file ?? Thank a lot..

When playing thje file go to filters->advanced and there you have tha path to the filter you search. Usually in c:\program files\common files\ahead\audioplugins or \DSfilter.
