memory usage problem

hi,

my computer is a Pentium III with 512 RAM. When using BSPlayer along with antivirus, firewall, P2P, etc., I sometimes got loops or stops. I set the BSPlayer option to "High" priority and it was better. However, when playing xVid files through xVid codec, I sometimes get those problems.

My question is, does setting "high" priority in BSPlayer option affect to the codec software used? or should I somehow change the priority of xVid process itself? If so, does anyone how to achieve that? (xVid software doesn't have a menu option for setting the priority).

Thanks!

It does not have, but you can disable all postprocessing in it's menu.

Your central processor is the bottleneck, not the amount of memory. To see how the process priority setting affects the priority of each thread, you can use an older version of TaskInfo. Try ffdshow as a decoder for all video formats. It's fast, allows flexible configuration and chances are it will the right priority for your system. :) With a computer like that you should uninstall all non-essential background programs, such as an antivirus. It will also free up memory for hungry P2P servers like eMule. But before you change the configuration of your system, you should check which programs are using most CPU resources.

@ocnos: What BS.Player version are you using? It might be worth while to roll back to an "older" version.
