Problem with mkv subtitles...please help >.<

Greetings...I have an annoying problem with subtitles on mkv, i was hoping you could help me. (and sorry for my bad english XD)
When I watch a mkv file and two people speak at the same time, bsplayer shows me only one of the subtitles. In normal programs they show a subtitle on top of the screen and another on the bottom (like in anime openings: there is the karaoke on top and the translation on the bottom), but with bsplayer it shows me only the subtitle that should be on the top, and it shows me that on the bottom. I don't know what to do, because many times there are shows with persons speaking at the same time, and bsplayer just shows me one of them.
I hope someone can help me :\ i use bsplayer pro version 2.35 build 986

This problem it's generated by ass/ssa subtitle support in BSPlayer, which...seems to be fixed in the latest release. ;)
So, my advice, update BSPlayer and come back and say if problem was solved.

i just upgraded to 2.37 build 993b, but it didn't solve the problem :(

Can you post here which codecs / filters are used to render the file ?
Open such a file -> rightclick ->options -> filters ->advanced.
Also, can you post a link to such a file (PM me if you don't want it to be public)
I have such files and are playing with no problems.

The filter i see there are:
-DirectSound: SB X-Fi Audio
-EQ
-CoreAVC Video Decoder
-ffdshow Audio Decoder
-Source

You can find the video i'm watching right now here:

the file is

In normal players the opening has the karaoke on top and the translation on bottom (while bsplayer shows only the karaoke on bottom), and at 6:36 in normal players you see the translation of the comic text on top, and the phrase the man is saying on bottom (while bsplayer shows only the translation of the comic on bottom)

So, a little bit of study over this file. The file is a MKV file, AVC / AAC and an internal ASS subtitle file. I demuxed the subtitle file using 2 different programs: VirtualDubMod and MKVextract.

VirtualDubMod result is somehow close to an srt file:

Code:

14
00:00:59,120 --> 00:01:04,790
269,0,OP_Romaji,,0000,0000,0000,,{\be1}{\fad(480,0)}kono omoi wo keshite shimau ni wa mada jinsei nagai deshou
15
00:00:59,120 --> 00:01:04,790
293,0,OP_English,,0000,0000,0000,,{\be1}{\fad(480,0)}Life is still too long for me to want to erase these feelings.
16
00:01:06,080 --> 00:01:11,420
270,0,OP_Romaji,,0000,0000,0000,,{\be1}{\fad(480,360)}yarinokoshiteru koto, yarinaoshite mitai kara
17
00:01:06,080 --> 00:01:11,420
294,0,OP_English,,0000,0000,0000,,{\be1}{\fad(480,360)}I want to try and redo those things I left undone.

MKVextract file is a little bit different, as indeed, it's a ASS file. The same part as above will be:

Code:

Dialogue: 0,0:00:59.12,0:01:04.79,OP_Romaji,,0000,0000,0000,,{\be1}{\fad(480,0)}kono omoi wo keshite shimau ni wa mada jinsei nagai deshou

Dialogue: 0,0:00:59.12,0:01:04.79,OP_English,,0000,0000,0000,,{\be1}{\fad(480,0)}Life is still too long for me to want to erase these feelings.

As you can see, the 2 subtile lines have same time stamp and are separated by another function inside the ass file.
On the other hand, the first subtitle (srt-like) probably is treated as a srt file and one of the lines is ignored instead of being posted on top of screen.

thank you^^ but my problem is that bsplayer can't read them (i have several video like this) and i really can't separate the subs for every video i download XD there's no way to let bsplayer read those subs in the mkv jus like the other players do?

The files will be studied by BSPlayer's developpers and hopefully, the support for ASS subtitles will be improved.

thank you very much :)

i just downloaded the new version, but the problem isn't solved :(
and i encountered a new problem: with this version there are some videos (very few of them) that go in slow motion °_°

Chibi 16th April 2009 06:04 PM

ok i just realized it happens with .mp4 files. when i try to open an mp4 with bsplayer, the video (and audio) goes on in slow motion.

Chibi 16th April 2009 10:58 PM

i solved the mp4 problem by reinstalling bsplayer...but still, the problem with the subtitles remains XD
