problems w/MKV audio playback

I'm having problems getting the audio to play on some mkv files I'm trying to watch. I'd been watching the files on VLC media player but it was having trouble w/the video, so I downloaded the bsplayer. the bsplayer runs the video just fine but I can't get any sound to come out. I tried running other file types and they all work fine on both video and audio playback. it seems to be just the mkv's giving it a problem w/the sound. I've tried to load it externally and I've tried adjusting the volume and audio track settings, but to no avail. any help on this matter would be much appreciated!

Usually, MKV files contains AC3 sound, so installing AC3Filter should fix the problem.
