some people say (and I am one of them): don't use codec packs !
or at least be aware of what you're doing...

looks like you didn't know you had ffdshow installed...
ffdshow takes care of decoding divx, xvid etc...
ffdshow in itself is great, but you may have an old version... xvid has evolved
you'll find recent versions of ffdshow on http://dvd.box.sk
if you prefer to use xvid instead of ffdshow, access ffdshow config, codecs tab and uncheck 'xvid'
to access ffdshow config, either play a file and right-click the 'FF' icon in the systray, or create a shortcut with target:

note: if the ffdshow.ax file isn't in your windows\system32 directory, you need to put the full path to that file in the shortcut target
