Yes, this works pretty well for most files.. Despite some users here don't like codec packs, I have installed K-Lite's Mega Codec Pack, which I think is the best choice if you don't want to keep track of every single needed codec manually.. It includes Quicktime and Real Alternative (among others), so you can finally watch those files in your favourite media player(s)
