I confirm Gabest's Matroska splitter is working fine providing BSPlayer with
text subtitles which can be turned on and off. Seeking is also working properly. Maybe the not-working files have graphical subtitles muxed directly from DVDs?
MkvToolNix/MMG will tell you the types of streams a MKV has.
