Try to press the numpad 5 button on your keyboard. Now your video should look right.
If at next run it still goes to fit the height instead of the width, go in BSplayer preferences window and look for these options:
1. In "Video" section uncheck "Remember Pan-Scan settings"
2. Still in "Video" section deselect also "Remember zoom" option
