 I really need help

I've downloaded a .avi movie and i am trying to open it with BS.Player and it doesn't work, it says: ''error'' ''can't open file'' or something like that. So i try with VLC player and with this one it doesn't show me any error stuff but it doesn't wanna play
Can any body help me please
