mplayer or xine both play videos with far less cpu utilization and play more videos then the windows media player engine players like bsplayer. Both are also much more customizable and have more features. I like xine myself.

vlc is the only one I'm aware of that uses it's own engine, it also has cpu utilization much lower then wmp.
