What's the version of BSPlayer you are using ?
That is happening with every .AVI file or just some of them.
There was a time when you could fool BSPlayer by changing extension, so it wouldn't acces the right splitter (an MPEG file renamed as .AVI didn't worked anymore). Maybe this is the same case here, and the only way to call for the correct splitter and decoding filter is to rename to .DIVX. So, either you are using a very old build of BSPlayer, or your splitter is messed up. Reinstalling the avi splitter, or installing another one (like Haali) should fix this.
