I don't know the technical explanation for it, but Mode 2 gives me a better picture. Mode 1 sometimes give me dark green artifacts in black areas of a video, Mode 2 doesn't.
This *might* have something to do with my Matrox G450, as it seems like the DivXG400 workaround (
http://www.tac.ee/~prr/divxg400/) is only activated in Mode 2.
