If only for playing, not encoding (and in many cases even for encoding), divx5.02 free version is good enough, and comes with no spyware...
besides there is also the
ffdshow filter solution. ffdshow is a filter that will allow you decoding divx and xvid (and other) films, you don't need any codec. Plus if you're fan of decoding options, you will enjoy it ;)
