Default Please: bplay.exe instead of bSplay.exe

I know it is a little request as compared to the debugging work.
Although, all our autorun CDs were build on c:\program files\bsplayer\bplay.exe and Not bSplay.exe.

I think it is not much to come back now and that would be much more "professionnal". So, please do it.

Thanks and again congatulations.

Laurent

Hi Laurent,

is renaming / copying bsplay.exe to bplay.exe an inacceptable solution?

I'm doing that, too - I'm too lazy to update the associations.

IMHO bsplay.exe is a better name for a programm called BSPlayer than bplay.exe - bsplayer.exe would even be more suitable.

Did you really hardcode the full pathname? E.g., on my pc, the programs are located on D:, under "Programme" (localized), and there are two directory names between "Programme\" and "\BSPlayer".
(But don't be too concerned about that - I don't like Autostart at all, so I deactivated it ages ago...)

edit: oh, JTHawk has been faster...

Hi everybody,

Renaming is working indeed. Although if sometime any improvement is made that requires an association to the name of the file, we might meet some difficulties with all the old autorun CDs.

I wonder if BST could guarantee OR to come back to the filename bplay.exe OR that renaming it ourself will always work.

I think it is a question of long-term reliability for such a software. Full compatibility must be maintained forever for the autorun CDS otherwise it make no sense to base our collections on the .ini of BSplayer.

I'm not sure that I make my concern very clear. In summary, I don't see the advantage of changing the name of the exe file. On the contrary, it will be a real "pain the ass" to be in a situation where we need to rename at each new vesion and this FOREVER !

I really insist to come back to bplay.exe.

I understand that it is not possible to BST and MAT200 to answer all messages but maybe they can give their position on that.

Thanks a lot.

Your autorun files are wrong. You are making the files only for yourself, and only if you don't change anything in the paths of your system. If you give a CD to another people, they will not be able to use the autorun, because IT POINTS ONLY TO THE PATH YOU'RE USING. So now, it's a nonsense to claim to BST for changing the name of the EXE file, only because YOU don't want to change it manually.

You can make autorun CDs, burning BSPlayer in the CD with the movie and the INI or BSI file, and it will works perfect. There is also a option called "RunHD" for playing using BSPlayer installed in your system, if you prefer. But making a autorun file with the path you're using to install the program is a mistake, YOUR mistake, not BST mistake.

BST has changed not only the name of the exe file but the path in programs files and registry! :(
That is destructive for my previous cds as HW BSplayer Autorun v1 was searching the registry to find BSplayer's path. But I can live with it. I can have both 0.86 & 1.00 installed in my PC and my older movies will play with 0.86. :)
The new v2 of my launcher will have support for both versions of BSplayer through the registry (the next Alpha release will implement this feature).

OK, maybe I'm wrong.
Here is my autorun:

Quote:
[autorun]
OPEN=\program files\BSPlayer\bplay.exe bsplayer.bsi
ICON=bplay.exe
It is the exact path that was the default of v0.8. So I thought it was a standard. So I'm not asking to change but to NOT change.

Anyway, could you tell me what I should write instead ?

Thanks.

Hello,

I tried the proposed autorun.inf as follows:
Quote:
[autorun]
OPEN=bsplayer.bsi
ICON=bsplayer.bsi
It does not work

Then I tried the same but with full description of the path of bsplayer.bsi like this:
Quote:
[autorun]
OPEN=h:\bsplayer.bsi
ICON=bsplayer.bsi
(h: is my cd reader)
It does not work.

So I'm stuck with giving the name of the .exe file on my harddisk like this:
Quote:
[autorun]
OPEN=\program files\BSPlayer\bplay.exe bsplayer.bsi
ICON=bplay.exe
This works !

Can anyone help me again on this ?

Thanks

Hello,

This issue is still there with version 1 build 805.

Please, tell me that you will come back to bplay.exe. All my autorun cds are based on bplay.exe not on bsplay.exe .

Please, please, ...

this doesn't work cause you can put only executable files in autorun. File association doesn't work. That's why a reliable autorun solution must use an executable file. I think you should try using HWautorun
http://www.geocities.com/HWautorun
and for your old CDs, keep an old version installed. Backward compatibility doesn't have to be maintained always, that's why major version change are made for.

I use a tiny program for autorun, which does not need any configuration whatsoever. Just add two files - autorun.exe and autorun.inf to the cd and the program will do the following:

1. If there's a BSI file on the cd and .bsi is associated with something, it will open the file.
2. If there's a BSL file on the cd and .bsl is associated with something, it will open the file. Otherwise will open directory (several episodes on cd).
3. If the above are not found, it'll open the first avi, divx, ogm... file that it can find. Simple.

By "open", I mean the same thing as double-clicking in explorer, more precisely choosing "Open" from the file menu.

So basically, if BSPlayer is not installed on the computer, it will still open up the avi in whatever player there is.

The proggy is attached, source included.
Attached Files
File Type: zip autorun_113.zip (11.5 KB, 192 views)

HW BSplayer Autoprun does the same exact thing + many, many more! 8)
