While trying to open an. avi file I get this error message:

My BSPlayer is running on an Intel Pentium II 233MHz with Windows 98.
I want to make clear that the player sometimes WORKS (and it does fine!), but when it doesn't work that's when it displays the message above.
I've seen many other users troubled about the same problem. So, what's going on???
