bsplayer locks up system

I've used bsplayer for a long time without any problem, and due to a faulty hard drive, I had to reinstall all my pc from scratch.

Now, whatever .avi file I might want to load, bsplayer crashes my whole computer on opening the file. (freeze -> hard reboot) This does not happen with .mpg files however.

I reinstalled the codecs I had before, and I installed the 803 version of bsplayer. I've tried installing 804 and 805 to no avail, it still freezes up.

I don't understand what has changed so much in my configuration that has the player crash.

If anyone's got some insight on what might be causing the problem, I'll be extremely thankful.
