Default Problem opening avi movies

I have tried opening two large avi films "Mean machine" and "Strangers on a Train" with BS player. I see the player starting and then it exits itself automatically without displaying any video screen. This also occurs when I try to use Windows Media Player Classic. However if I use VLC, it works fine.

I prefer BS play rather than VLC. Much help would be appreciated. i have windows 2K pro, installed k-lite mega pack, and put all the windows updates as required.

Help! :?

Default

I don't really know how VLC works but it's... special [it's able to play partial files and it even found parts of movies in an iso image I had (I suppose the image had been filled with junk somehow) ]

regular players usually won't be able to play corrupted files. gspot can tell you whether an avi file is valid or corrupted (I can't remember right now if it's able to check other formats).
You can have a go with divfix or virtualDubMod to try and repair corrupted files.

P.S. and even if your files are not corrupted, gspot might bring in useful info ;)

Default BS Player works on other computer except on this one

I understand VLC is special, but it can't seem to play these two files on this PC and works fine on other PCs. I'm playing this off a CD, so any explanations or fixes?
