Trouble w/ Subtiles on and off and trancparency of subtitles

Hi, I am using BS Player V1.30 built 818
great player, I must say.

But I have the following problems:
1. When I run a film with subtitles I cannot turn that feature off while the movie is running. In fact I have to turn it off the preferences and then need to restart the player. If I don't do it, the subtitles are not running along with the film, but seem to stall. I see either the latest shown sentence or a black box. This might be also in relation to

2. I can not turn off the background color of the subtitles. I can change the color, but the transparency switch does have no effect on my machine?! The text is always boxed.

Both problems apply to all movie formats (divX, Xvid, mpg2) als well as to all subtitle files I have tried (srt, sub).

Any ideas?

First try updating BSplayer, since build 818 some versions came out
Then if the problem doesn't disappear, try to use the option "Draw subtitles to Overlay surface" in Subtitles properties.
