Default What codec do I get?

My computer recently fixed a corrupted registry and has set all it's settings to default. Now no video files can play (avi, wmv..) but I have audio. I don't know how this affected BSPlayer, maybe it deleted some video codecs aswell?

Anywho I uninstalled and reinstalled the Divx codec, nothing. Tried the Xvid codec, nothing. I also tried the FFDShow Mpeg-4 Decoder (It didn't work in "Windows NT") and 3ivx D4 4.5.1 codec. Rawr, I dunno where to go from here. Say every video codec was erased, what is the magical codec that would make all the .avi files functional?

By the way I have Win98 and BSPlayer Pro 2.0 and this is what GSpot says. Heellppp mmeeee

Maybe reinstall your video driver and DirectX 8 (or 9 if you need it)?

Try another build of ffdshow. This codec should install.

Reinstalled DirectX 9 and installed a 2004 version of FFDShow, nada. I also used to get this disorientated image of my background picture, now nothing appears when I play a file. It used to do this when I moved my resoultion too high (1280x960 for example) but it seems to be doing this in most of the resoultions. Anything more I can do?

Did you know that you cannot re-install the same version DirectX?

Quote:
Just tell windows that the current version installed is a lower version.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX\\Ver sion
For 9.0c I have a version number of 4.09.0000.0904
Change it to 4.08 and windows (and directX installers) will believe you
have directX 8 installed.
How do the distorted wallpaper look? Anyway this surely indicates a video problem (GSpot showed no problems with codecs). Did you reinstall your video driver (change it to VGA, reboot, and install the real driver, reboot again)? You can free up your videocard if you play movies only in full screen at low resolution (640*480 or 800*600 with "do not resize video in full screen").

I think you should re-register quartz.dll

I changed to VGA and reinstalled my video driver, still nothing. Although I can play movies on Mplayer2.exe, Winamp and Divx Players. I even properly re-registered the quartz.dll and mcdvm.ocx (I type it right?) files as adicoto suggested. What does it indicate if other players can play the .avi files and not BSPlayer?

msdxm.ocx? It's the Mplayer2.

1) Maybe experiment with these 2 options under Management -> General
***- "Allow intermediate filters"
***- "Enable advanced graph building" (I had problems when this was turned ON)

2) Maybe try deleting/renaming bsplayer*.xml file to drop all BSPlayer's settings.

3) Maybe try another version of BSPlayer such as v1.36.
