Default Video/TV very dark :(

When watching videos or TV using BSplayer, they are displayed very dark, despite my brightness/contrast settings for monitor and desktop beeing just fine.

I realized, that switching to the Rendering Mode "Internal Renderer DDraw Surface" instead of "Overlay Mix" or "Internal renderer overlay" fixes the brightness problem, but not the TV takes a very long time to load, so this isn´t a long-time solution.

I just discovered I get the same dark videos when using Winamp or even when playing DVDs using PowerDVD. In winamp I can fix the problem by disabling "allow hardware video overlay".

Maybe you have adjusted color settings in Display Properties (or any Control Panel extensions for your video adapter). There should be 2 sets of brightness, contrast and gamma: one for the desktop (which is fine) and one for the overlay.

That worked! I didn´t even now my Video-cards driver settings had that video setting option and I never touched it, but for some wierd reason gamma was set to -8% there (on a scala that doesn´t go below 0 =)
I corrected it and everything looks fine now.

Thanks a lot!
