So maybe BSPlayer does not take into account that Italic is a different font in fact and will most likely not match in width.

Ico-man 17th August 2007 09:05 AM

Fixed, bug fix will be included in the next version of BS.Player.
Thank you for your feedback.

Now, that's what I would call really excellent news!!
:D

After reading some older posts regarding this matter, I found a workaround for my problem. This problem only happens when subtitles are autoloaded (they have the same filename as the movie) by the player, but if I manually load subtitles, then everything is fine.

So, until the next version this'll do. Regards.

Hereunder I repeat a more recent thread (4 posts) concerning the same problem. [Locked that particular thread.]

Today i downloaded version 2.26 and hoped the subtitle crop problem was fixed. I have posted about this problem two times. (example : http://bsplayer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12824)
To remember about this bug :
I watch 720p (1280x720) mkv files encoded with x264 codec. My Windows (XP) desktop resolution is 1440x900. When opening these types of files the subtitles which have the identical names with video files are cropped by both sides. I also tried a video file which is x264 codec encoded and has the resolution 704 x 304 and still has the same problem. I assume this is not related to resolution of the video file.
The subtitles have Turkish language and Turkish fonts ( which is code page 1254 i assume). The file format is subrip.
The only way to prevent this is changing the subtitle name so player does not load automatically and drag the subtitle manually. This way is so slow and annoying.
Could you please fix this ?

I have included a file containing both cropped and not cropped subtitle show captured image and the subtitle file.

Thanks.

Indeed an old, known and seemingly ever re-appearing bug. Apparently still needs fixing by BS.Player-team.

P.S.: You're using which splitter (and which version)?

After browsing some other forums, I came acros some complaints about incompatibilityes between Haali and other players. Could it be the faulty one ? Can't believe 2 different player have issues with the same splitter.

I am using Haali splitter.I have this problem too with external subtitles (embedded mkv subs don't work at all) and only in BSPlayer.

May I suggest future posters that they (i.a.) also mention which BS.Player version and Haali-version they use pse!

If you swich in subtitle properties the script from tukish to western european, and back, does this change anything ?

The subtitle OSD screen might also be video driver dependant, not just muxer-splitter combo. I recently setup a Win98 computer with integrated Intel Extreme graphics. I installed the regular trusted set of codecs (Haali, ffdshow beta3, ac3filter 1.01a). The computer has several display problems with DirectDraw games and also subtitles in BS do not work properly: can't be positioned, are not transparent, cropped.

Resorted to drawing them to video using ffdshow. Thankfully the comp is fast enough for that.

warrenz 2nd February 2008 07:49 AM

they seem to be the regular length. Something changed from 2.15 to 2.21 that shouldn't have, I hope there's a fix for this soon...

Ferlorin 13th May 2012 02:47 AM

This fixed my problem:

Open the subtitle file with notepad. Click File > Save as. Set Encoding to ANSI instead of UTF-8. Dont change the name and click save. It will ask you if you are willing to replace the file click "YES".

It seems that subtitles are bugged if they are encoded in UTF-8.

baracuda 13th May 2012 07:15 AM

@Ferlorin, thanks for info

Glacious 5th July 2012 08:17 AM

right click on the screen, options, preferences and under the subtitles menu check the new parser option. Problem should be solved.
