Default Crashing with MPG files

Is it Ok to ask questions regarding v1.36? Didn't see any warning so here goes...

BSplayer 1.36 build 825 is crashing when opening certain .MPG/.MPEG files. The message is

Gspot shows that only files with codec MPEG-1 crash; files with codec MP43 (S-Mpeg 4 version 3) do not crash.

I have ffdshow installed (rev 1685, from this week's release) and I can play the troublesome files with WMP11.

What could be the matter here?
