Default m2ts / Runtime Error

Trying to run a "m2ts" video-file with
BS.Player 2.40 Build 996
I get this error message:

"Runtime Error!
Program: C:\ ... \bsplayer. exe
This application has requested the Runtime
to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support
team for more information."

Other file-types (e.g. "mpg") run without problems

System: WinXP, lots of free memory (~1GB).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Could you post a link to such a file (to test) ?
m2TS it's a transport stream file and usually requieres a splitter that support such files.

"---.m2ts" is what you get when you bring the video-files from a AVCHD camcorder
(here Panasonic HDC-SD300) to your computer.
The software delivered with the camcorder is rather awful.

So, could you make a short film (5-10 secs) and upload it to a filesharing site ?

Default m2ts - sample

OK: under
http://www.mediafire.com/file/3okyqj...1_184110].m2ts
you find such a file. (20 sec before the beginning of a TT-Match)
Sorry, it's 40 MB because the trouble begins with files
that play more than 10 seconds. (2MB/sec - it's HD!)
Some do not start at all
others stop at ca. 10 sec.
FFDshow is installed !!!

Again: many thanks for help!!!

Can you also provide CPU and GPU data on your pc? Also, do you have ffdshow installed with internal "codecmanager.exe" found in BS.Player's folder?

WinXP-Home V2002, SP 2
Intel Pentium 4, 3.00 GHz
RAM 3 GB (0.5 GB occupied by graphic card?)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800

I could not find "codecmanager.exe"
neither
nor on my disk at all

Within the BS.Player-Installation
there is a subdirectory "FFDShow"
with a lot of ff_---.dll

Where can I find a short tutorial
about all the Vido- / Codec-related terms?

I am sorry - in 2.40 and previous BS.Player versions it was named "bspcodecdl.exe".

We beleive that the reason for this problem is inadequate hardware (specifically CPU). This file plays ok on Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz, while on Pentium 4 2.8GHz it cannot be displayed correctly (video freezes, audio is choppy...). Another reason may be that ffdshow only supports single CPU core, maybe this will be fixed with future ffdshow updates.

Even after a new installation of the latest FFDSHOW (20090515)
"bspcodecdl.exe" criticized an outdated version.

Anyway thank you very much for help!

One last question:
where can I find a comprehensive overview / glossary
for all these Video- / Codec-related terms ?

To find out which codecs/filters are actually used by BS.Player for playback of a certain file:
load the file (you need not play it). Then ...
... rightclick > Options > Filters > Advanced > (you can also click on the [+]-es shown to see more info).

"Even after a new installation of the latest FFDSHOW (20090515)
"bspcodecdl.exe" criticized an outdated version." If i understand you correctly, you ran bspcodecdl, installed latest version of ffdshow (FROM bspcodecdl), restarted bspcodecdl and it still reports outdated version of ffdshow?
If this is the case, you might not have the permissions needed to write in that folder, usually Documents and Settings/... and you need to run bspcodecdl from administrator user account.

Is that the information?
Wonder why it comes from MAGIX
MAGIX can work(convert) with those files.
