Is this the problem with the black strip down one side of the screen?
You can try Overlay Mode 2, but subtitles won't work in this mode.

Yup, i've solved this.. after many hours of trial and error, enabled overscan on the tvout too, makes it look really great..

However, i use BSplayer (ofcourse) overlay mode1 and FFDSHOW to play videos, and in the FFDSHOW configuration dialog, be sure to deselect YV12 since that's the mode it almost always defaults to, and it's the mode that makes the movies appear squished when using tvout.
Try it, it should work for you too.

Where should I find the FFDSHOW config dialog? In BSPlayer itself or is there a separate program to configure it? the ffdshow.ax codec is on my system, as part of the Nimo Lite pack but there's no obvious way of configuring it.

Cheers.

It seems the ffdshow wasn't registered on installing the nimo codec pack. I downloaded ffdshow from Sourceforge.net, disabled YV12 in the video tab, and all is well :)

Thanks, Dr. Cain

On a Chrontel chipset (7007 with GF2MX) I have to use YV12 to display correctly on the TV, while YUV2 (colors are rendered correctly in the overlay) isn't centred
