WinXP -> no brightness control ??

I just installed WinXP and now I can't change the brightness of my DivX movies. Whenever I change them nothing happens, and when I leave the options and open them again everything is set back to 0 again (Remember settings on).

Any way I can solve this?
Do you think a reinstall would help?

I'm so dumb.
I found out that the movie isn't even a divx. (I thonght so because it was an .avi)
